BLET is offered through ºÚÁÏÉç Workforce Continuing Education. The course provides the state-mandated entry-level training required for individuals seeking certification as law enforcement officers in North Carolina.

Get the Training You Need

The BLET course provides instruction in the state-required topics and practical skills needed by entry-level law enforcement officers. Successful students complete a demanding combination of classroom instruction, physical training, and practical skills development designed to prepare them for the state comprehensive examination and employment with a North Carolina law enforcement agency.

Training Both Body and Mind

Every day in the life of a law enforcement officer is different, and the profession can be physically and mentally demanding. Throughout BLET, students learn foundational law enforcement concepts while developing the physical fitness, discipline, decision-making skills, professional conduct, courtesy, and respect expected of law enforcement officers.

BLET is a highly structured and disciplined continuing education course. Attendance, academic performance, physical fitness, practical skills, conduct, and all other course requirements must meet the standards established by ºÚÁÏÉç and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Ready to Begin?

Because BLET is offered through Workforce Continuing Education, individuals seeking enrollment in BLET should follow the BLET application and continuing education registration process. To begin the process of applying to the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), you will first need to apply to ºÚÁÏÉç as Continuing Education student.

1. Review the BLET admission requirements and course expectations.
2. Download and complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Application Packet.
3. Submit the completed packet and all required documentation to the ºÚÁÏÉç BLET staff by the stated deadline.
4. After acceptance into the course, follow the instructions provided by BLET staff to register through Workforce Continuing Education.

Important: Submitting an application packet does not guarantee admission. Applicants must satisfy all applicable state and college eligibility requirements before enrollment.

Credit Pathway Statement

Students who successfully complete the approved BLET course and meet applicable requirements may be eligible to receive up to 33- credit hours toward an Associate of Applied Science Criminal Justice degree through ºÚÁÏÉç’s credit-for-prior-learning process.
